Florida
has more full size golf courses than any other state in the US, with
currant figures showing in excess of 1200. In Orlando alone there are
upwards of 125 courses within an hour drive of the theme parks.
The
ideal year round weather brings Golfers flocking from both around the US
and further a field, including some of the biggest names in the pro
game. Many of
the courses have been designed by the biggest names in golf architecture
and regularly feature in the top positions of national surveys.
The
following is just a few of the courses within easy reach of our villa.

- Stonegate Golf Club at Solivita
Stonegate
Golf Club is a great example of how a course can be enjoyable for
players of all ages and abilities. Designer Ron Garl laid the
course out at over 7000 yards from the back tees for the "big
hitters," but also ingeniously mapped out three more
forgiving sets of tees. With water on eight holes and free-forming
collars around the greens, there's a definite emphasis on the
short game. After all, golf's most famous adage is "drive for
show and putt for dough." Always meticulously groomed with
rolling, tree-lined fairways, natural vegetation and wetlands, and
a habitat to the native wildlife, what's not to like?! Whether
playing 18 or 36 holes with its sister course, The Cypress, you'll
treasure the memory of these two fine courses. Located in
Poinciana, about 25 minutes south of US192 in Kissimmee and the
Disney area.

- Diamond Back Golf Club
Diamondback is a parkland course set out in the wide, empty spaces of rural Polk County, southwest of Orlando.
But the course squeezes itself into these wide-open spaces, with
its tight, narrow, tree-lined fairways with tiny, itty-bitty,
shifting, hard-to-hit landing areas.
Designed by Joe Lee, the course was carved out of 240 acres of virgin Florida forest about 30 minutes from Disney World. It has interesting terrain, from naturally swampy area to sandy, rolling hills.
It's 6,805 yards from the back tees with a slope rating of 138, though the middle tees are 6,359 yards with a slope of 132. The shortest tees are 5,061 yards.
Lee put together an interesting layout, with a lot of risk-reward doglegs with intimidating obstacles at the corners.
The greens are average-sized and many are multi-tiered with some having up to three and even four different levels. They have some challenging undulation and slope.

- Mystic Dunes Golf Club
Carved
from rolling orange groves and native protected wetlands,
Champions Tour Player and NBC Lead Golf Analyst Gary Koch has
created a masterpiece of blended philosophies and unrivaled
challenges that is certain to go down as one of the most unique in
all of Florida.
Greens
reminiscent of Augusta National, par fours that rival in length to
some of the longest seen in Professional Major Championships, and
a diabolical quartet of par threes that seem to get more intense
as the round progresses are just some of the outstanding features
on this 7,012 yard, Par 71 track. Meticulous course
conditioning guarantees superior playing conditions year-round
with special attention given to the greens complexes that feature
at least fifty yards of tiff-dwarf grass surrounds, allowing for
an unlimited variety of shot types and strategies. Five sets
of tee boxes offer every level of golfer the ability to play from
the distance that makes a round of golf enjoyable and with just
enough challenge to keep the players interest piqued.
Back tees (Black) are reserved for the professional or low-single
digit handicap amateur only.
